Frequently Asked Questions

Are your artworks original?

Yes. Each work is born from my own hand and imagination. Nothing here is copied, generated, or derived from machines or borrowed sources. Every piece begins in silence and intention, and is carried through to completion by me alone.

Do you take commissions?

At this time, commissions are limited. Contact me at lotus@josephzhou.art and let’s talk about what you need.

Do you use AI to create your artwork?

No. My work is not shaped by algorithms or trained on borrowed images. It is made slowly, deliberately, and by hand. I’m guided by instinct, craft, and lived experience.

What medium do you use?

I work digitally, painting and drawing by hand using Procreate on iPad. Though the tools are modern, the process remains ancient: mark by mark, form by form, until the image reveals itself. You can view my processes and timelapses on Instagram or TikTok.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

My imagery is shaped by dark fantasy and mythic storytelling, echoes of games like Diablo and Magic: The Gathering, and the enduring spirit of shows such as Xena: Warrior Princess and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’m also deeply drawn to Greek mythology, human design, witchcraft, and astrology, systems that speak in symbols, archetypes, and cycles. These threads weave together into images that feel ritualistic, liminal, and story-bound.

I met you at an event. I want to buy something I saw in-person, but I don’t see it on your website?

My shop is still a work-in-progress. Please email me at lotus@josephzhou.art and I’ll list the item you want for purchase. Thanks for your patience.

Do you offer limited editions?

Some works are released in small, finite runs, never to be repeated. Others remain open, available for a time. Each piece will tell you its nature clearly before it is claimed.

Do you sign your work?

Most physical works bear my signature or stamp, placed with care. If a piece is signed or stamped, it will be noted, nothing is hidden or implied.

Will the colors look exactly the same in print?

Every print is made with care, but no two surfaces perceive light the same way. Minor shifts may occur, yet the spirit and atmosphere of the work remain intact.

What materials are used for prints?

Material details (paper type, finish, size, and printing method) are listed on each product page.

How long does shipping take?

Shipping timelines vary depending on the item and whether it is made to order. Most items ship within 3-5 business days.

Do you ship internationally?

Not currently. International shipping may be offered in the future.

Can I use your artwork for tattoos, merchandise, or NFTs?

No. These images are not offerings for replication, extraction, or transformation by machines, blockchains, or commerce. They remain whole, and they remain mine, unless permission is explicitly given. See Terms & Conditions and Licensing & Fair Use.

Do you license your artwork?

In rare and considered cases, yes. If your project honors the work and its intent, you may reach out to begin that conversation. For licensing, contact me at lotus@josephzhou.art

How can I support your work?

By welcoming a piece into your life. By sharing it with respect and credit. By bearing witness. These are the oldest forms of patronage.
